The Redefining Mobility Summit (RMS) brings together leaders from transportation, government, technology, academia, and community organizations to explore the future of mobility. Hosted by the Gomentum Innovation Alliance, the annual summit focuses on advancing innovative transportation solutions through collaboration, technology deployment, workforce development, and community engagement.
This year’s conversations centered on automated and electric vehicle technologies, workforce readiness, accessibility, public trust, and strategies for building more connected and equitable transportation systems. The summit provided an important opportunity for cross-sector partners to share lessons learned, identify emerging challenges, and strengthen the partnerships needed to shape the future of mobility.
The PLUM Catalyst was represented by Tammy Meehan Russell, Founder & Chief Catalyst; Allanté V. Whitmore, Ph.D., Director of Research and Social Impact; and Sarah Birdwell, Engagement Strategist & Accessibility SME.
On June 15, the PLUM team participated in the Strategic Advisory Workshop hosted in partnership with the Gomentum Innovation Alliance and the Regional Workforce Council. The workshop brought together leaders from across California representing public agencies, educational institutions, workforce organizations, industry partners, and emerging mobility companies to help shape the future workforce needed to support autonomous and electric vehicle technologies.
The following day, the team participated in the Redefining Mobility Summit, engaging with transportation leaders, workforce partners, technology developers, and community organizations to continue advancing conversations around workforce development, accessibility, public trust, and community-centered innovation.

Conference Highlights
Building the future mobility workforce requires more than technology deployment. It requires collaboration across industry, education, government, and communities.
During the Strategic Advisory Workshop, participants worked through a series of interactive activities and discussions designed to identify the knowledge, skills, and competencies that will be critical to preparing the future transportation workforce. Under the facilitation of PLUM Director of Research and Social Impact Allanté V. Whitmore, Ph.D., the workshop fostered meaningful collaboration and dialogue among participants representing a wide range of sectors and perspectives.
The level of engagement, collaboration, and enthusiasm in the room reinforced something we believe deeply at PLUM: the future of mobility will only be successful if we invest in people alongside technology.
Those conversations continued at the Redefining Mobility Summit, where themes of workforce development, accessibility, public trust, and community-centered innovation were woven throughout the event. It was also an opportunity to reconnect with existing partners and begin conversations with potential new collaborators working across autonomous mobility, accessibility, tribal transportation, and regional innovation.
Several themes stood out across both days:
- Workforce development must evolve alongside transportation technology deployment.
- Accessibility, equity, and public trust must be integrated from the beginning, not retrofitted later.
- Strong partnerships across industry, government, education, and communities are essential for scaling future mobility solutions.
Thank you to the Gomentum Innovation Alliance, the Regional Workforce Council, Contra Costa Transportation Authority, and everyone who contributed their expertise, perspectives, and enthusiasm. We look forward to continuing this work and helping build the partnerships, strategies, and workforce pathways needed for the future of mobility.
